Special Report
Health Effects Institute
1985

Report of the Institute's Health Review Comittee, September 1985. Supplement, January 1988. This report contains a review of data on the health effects of unburnt gasoline vapors, and evaluates the need for a research program to address major unresolved issues, especially in regard to the carcinogenicity of gasoline vapors. The supplement summarizes additional data published between 1985 and 1988 in response to a proposed regulatory strategy to reduce hydrocarbon emissions from mobile sources.

Study examines cardiometabolic effects of air pollutants, noise, and green space

December 18, 2024

HEI has published a new Research Report, Cardiometabolic Health Effects of Air Pollution, Noise, Green Space, and Socioeconomic Status: The HERMES Study. Led by Ole Raaschou-Nielsen of the Danish Cancer Institute, the research team investigated four traffic-related air pollutants (fine particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, ultrafine particulates, and elemental carbon), noise, and green space in relation to cardiometabolic health in 2.6 million adults in Denmark.

New report on air pollution and childhood asthma risk

September 6, 2024

HEI has published a new Research Report, Birth Cohort Studies of Long-Term Exposure to Ambient Air Pollution in Early Life and Development of Asthma in Children and Adolescents from Denmark. The study presented in the report, led by Marie Pedersen of the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, examined children’s asthma in four Danish cohorts and focused on exposure to an array of air pollutants.

New Canadian study reports health effects at very low air pollution levels

July 13, 2022

A comprehensive new HEI study examining potential health risks from low levels of air pollution exposure in millions of Canadian citizens reports increased risks of mortality, including at the lowest levels of exposure to fine particulate matter air pollution (PM2.5), levels tha
