Brussels meeting on air pollution and health

On behalf of HEI, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE), we are pleased to announce a May 24, 2023 meeting to be held in Brussels, Belgium. The aim of this meeting is to discuss the recently proposed revisions to the European Union's Ambient Air Quality Directive (AAQD), its strengths and weaknesses, identify remaining challenges and explore additional policy options.

Inequities persist in air pollution exposure across European Union cities

The new State of Global Air European Union Regional Air Quality Snapshot finds that air quality remains a concern in cities across the European Union (EU). This new data comes at a time when proposals to tighten the EU Air Quality Limit Values are in discussion; the proposed standards are also aligned more closely to the 2021 World Health Organization Air Quality Guidelines.

The Health Effects Institute invites graduate students and postdocs to apply for the Jane Warren Award for attending and presenting at HEI’s Annual Conference 2023.

This award is named in remembrance of Dr. Jane Warren, who joined HEI in the 1980s and led HEI’s scientific activities as Director of Science from 1999 until her retirement in 2008.

Fellowship applications are now being accepted!

The Health Effects Institute is excited to launch a new paid summer fellowship program! The program, which provides a mentor for each fellow, encourages undergraduate students from backgrounds underrepresented in the environmental health sciences to pursue research in this area.
