Use of Low-Cost Sensors for Air Quality Monitoring in South Asia: Virtual Training Series
Background
Countries in South Asia experience high levels of air pollution. Several efforts are underway to expand air quality monitoring and strengthen local capacity to generate data and evidence.
In the past, HEI has run several in-person and virtual trainings for early-career researchers in South Asia on air pollution and health. This year, we plan to host a five-part webinar series on use of low-cost sensor for air quality monitoring between January and February 2026, covering the following topics:
- Overview of Low-cost Sensors for Air Quality Monitoring
- Siting and Network Design for Low-Cost Sensors
- Air Quality Data Management and Analysis
- Maintaining and Managing a Large Low-Cost Sensor Network
- Global Best Practices and Toolkits
Goals
1) To strengthen capacity for use of low-cost sensors for air quality research among early-career researchers in South Asia.
2) To share lessons learned from large low-cost sensor networks and discuss ongoing projects in South Asia and other low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Participants may attend any sessions of interest, attendance at all trainings is not required. The sessions are free to attend and will be conducted in English. Slides and recordings will be made available after each training. Participants are expected to include early-career researchers from South Asia.
Please contact Abinaya Sekar (asekar@healtheffects.org) for any questions or concerns.
