HEI Energy Releases Its First Set of Research Reports
The inaugural set of studies focused on potential exposures to air emissions, water quality changes, and noise from oil and gas operations in the US. Learn More
HEI has published Research Report 197, which describes a study by Dr. Nga (Sally) Ng and her colleagues to characterize and compare the oxidative properties of ambient particulate matter and laboratory-generated secondary organic aerosols in toxicological assays.
HEI has published Research Report 199, which describes a study led by Dr. Xiaoliang Wang at the Desert Research Institute in Reno, Nevada. Wang and his colleagues sought to evaluate how mobile-source emissions have changed through real-world emission characterization in two traffic tunnels: the Shing Mun Tunnel in Hong Kong and the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore, Maryland.
HEI has issued Request for Applications (RFA) 19-1: Applying Novel Approaches to Improve Long-Term Exposure Assessment of Outdoor Air Pollution for Health Studies. HEI is seeking to fund studies to advance exposure assessment for air pollution and health studies using sensors, mobile monitoring, tracking technologies, and other approaches, with a focus on improving assessment of long-term exposures. Please refer to our Funding page for details.
In this issue of Update, read about a major new HEI study that measured progress on air quality in traffic tunnels, as well as two new HEI studies that examined secondary organic aerosols. Also in this edition, read about how we’re building our Strategic Plan for 2020–2025, our upcoming Annual Conference in Seattle, Washington, and more.
Quality science to inform decisions does not just happen — it takes a careful strategic effort, drawing from the best minds in policy and science to ensure that the most relevant answers can be produced in time for key upcoming decisions. HEI is now preparing to develop its Strategic Plan for Understanding the Health Effects of Air Pollution for the years 2020 to 2025. In the process it will draw on ideas from sponsors, the scientific community, and the broader community of environmental and other stakeholders.
The 2018 Annual Report, Promoting Dialogue, Building Trust, describes how HEI provides a balanced forum where diverse stakeholders find common ground to discuss HEI’s high quality, impartial, and relevant science informing public policy on air quality and public health. The report highlights HEI’s latest achievements and initiatives.
