Michael T. Clegg

Professor of Biological Sciences, University of California–Irvine

Michael Clegg is the Donald Bren Professor of Biological Sciences at the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California–Irvine. His research interests are in plant genetics, population genetics, and molecular evolution. Before that he was at the University of California–Riverside as professor of genetics and as dean of the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. He also was professor of botany and professor of genetics at the University of Georgia. He earned both his bachelor’s degree (agricultural genetics) and Ph.D. (genetics) at the University of California–Davis. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, where he has been re-elected as foreign secretary. He was elected as president of the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution and has received numerous awards and honors.
