Request
for Proposals, December 2003:
To Create a Database of Air Pollutant Components.
Introduction
The goal of
this Request for Proposals (RFP) is to develop an accessible air quality
database for selected sites in the US that can be applied in epidemiologic and
other studies to evaluate whether some characteristics of particulate matter
(PM) are of greater public health concern than others.
The initial focus will be
to compile information on how levels of components and characteristics of fine
PM vary spatially and temporally at sites in the EPA’s PM2.5
Chemical Speciation Trends Network (STN). These
data will need to be combined with information from other agencies that
monitor PM and gaseous air pollutants.
The work will be funded in two stages:
STAGE
1: Compile information on levels of multiple air pollutants at sites in the
STN.
STAGE
2: Create and maintain a user-friendly multi-pollutant database
Use the information collected in Stage 1 to set up and maintain a
Web-available database that contains the range of pollutant levels and PM
components measured at or near STN sites.
Funds:
Up to $100,000 available for Stage 1.
Application
Deadline for Stage 1: January 29,
2004.
Applicants should also indicate that they are willing to continue to work on
Stage 2 of the program. They are not asked, however, to submit detailed plans
or a budget for Stage 2. We anticipate funding in the range of $250,000 -
$300,000 for developing the database, with lower levels for maintaining and
updating it.
