Introduction
This page contains information on the Fall 2006
Research Agenda of the Health Effects Institute. We thank you for your
interest in HEI and its research program. The areas of research for which
the Institute is requesting applications at this time are described below. Hyperlinks

Request for Applications
06-3: Walter A. Rosenblith New Investigator Award
The purpose of this award
is to bring new, creative investigators into active research on the health
effects of air pollution. It provides three years of funding for a small
project relevant to HEI’s research interests to a new investigator
with outstanding promise at the Assistant Professor or equivalent level.
For information on HEIs current research priorities, applicants should
consult HEIs current Strategic
Plan
.
HEI
expects to provide one or more awards from this RFA on an annual basis.
The evaluation process for these applications will consider the qualifications
and background of the applicant, the quality and relevance of the research
proposal, and the research environment of the applicant.
Letters
of Intent for RFA 06-3 are due on December 1, 2006;
applications are due on January 9, 2007, or must be
sent by overnight air delivery service postmarked by that date. Twenty-five
copies of each application are needed for HEI’s review process. For

Request
for Preliminary Applications 06-4: Health Effects of Air Pollution
Request for Preliminary Applications 06-4
provides an application mechanism for investigators whose area of interest
falls outside the topics targeted in other current research requests, but
is relevant to HEI’s current priorities. For information on
HEIs current research priorities, applicants should consult HEIs
current Strategic Plan
.
Preliminary
applications to RFPA 06-4 may be submitted at any time, and will be
discussed at the next scheduled Research Committee meeting. Deadlines
for receiving preliminary applications for consideration at specific meetings
are January
31, 2007; April 18, 2007; and October 12, 2007.
Please check this page for future deadlines. The
Research Committee will request full applications for those considered most
relevant to the Institutes
research program. Please note that
expedited pilot studies are no longer included in the preliminary application

Request
for Short Applications 06-5: Pilot Studies for Junior Investigators on
the Health Effects of Air Pollution
Request for Short Applications 06-5
provides a mechanism for junior investigators whose area of interest is
consistent with the mission of HEI to apply for pilot study funds through
an expedited mechanism. Such pilot studies are intended to help junior
investigators generate data in support of an application for a full study.
HEI is interested in receiving applications on novel and important aspects
of health effects of air pollutants, particularly those derived from motor
vehicle emissions. For information on
HEIs current research priorities, applicants should consult HEIs
current Strategic Plan

Applications to RFSA 06-5 may be submitted
at any time and will be discussed at the next scheduled Research Committee
meeting. Deadlines
for receiving preliminary applications for consideration at specific meetings
are January
31, 2007; April 4, 2007; and September 19, 2007.
